Welcome to Admirux.com! I’m excited to introduce this platform, a place where I can share my evolving journey into the world of Linux, cybersecurity, and open-source technology. This first post is a bit of an introduction—to the site, to my experiences, and to the reasons why I decided to create Admirux.com. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or someone just starting out like me, I hope this blog will become a valuable resource for all things Linux and cybersecurity.

A Lifelong Passion for Technology

Technology has always been more than just a hobby for me—it’s a passion. From the first time I tinkered with a computer, I knew I wanted to understand the inner workings of the software and hardware that drive our digital world. This curiosity led me down the path of exploring various operating systems, with a particular focus on those that offer the freedom to modify, customize, and optimize. My journey eventually led me to the world of open-source software, where innovation is driven by community collaboration and the shared goal of making technology accessible to everyone.

Discovering Linux: A New Beginning

My adventure with Linux began not too long ago, in March of this year. As a newcomer to this vast and diverse ecosystem, I quickly realized that Linux is more than just an operating system—it’s a community and a philosophy. The open-source nature of Linux means that it’s constantly evolving, with thousands of developers around the world contributing to its growth. This sense of community, where knowledge is freely shared and collaboration is encouraged, is something that resonates deeply with me.

As a beginner, I’ve found the learning curve to be steep but incredibly rewarding. I’ve dabbled in various Linux distributions, each offering its unique set of features and challenges. What excites me most about Linux is the endless potential for learning and customization. The more I explore, the more I realize how much there is to discover, from system administration to networking, scripting, and beyond.

Transforming Old Hardware: From Windows to Linux

One of the most practical applications of my newfound Linux knowledge has been converting several old laptops and desktops from Windows to Linux. These machines, once sluggish and outdated, have found new life running lightweight Linux distributions. This experience has taught me a lot about Linux installation, configuration, and troubleshooting, and it’s been incredibly satisfying to see these old computers perform efficiently with Linux.

The process of converting these machines has also deepened my appreciation for Linux’s versatility. Whether it’s breathing new life into old hardware or setting up a powerful server, Linux proves to be a robust and adaptable platform for virtually any task. This hands-on experience has solidified my commitment to continuing my journey with Linux and exploring all the possibilities it offers.

Kali Linux and My Journey into Cybersecurity

Of all the distributions I’ve worked with, Kali Linux holds a special place in my heart. Designed specifically for penetration testing and cybersecurity, Kali Linux has been my go-to tool for learning the ins and outs of ethical hacking and system security. As I’ve delved deeper into Kali Linux, I’ve become increasingly fascinated by the field of cybersecurity—how systems are built, how they can be exploited, and, most importantly, how they can be protected.

Cybersecurity is a field that’s both challenging and incredibly important in our digital age. To formalize my knowledge and skills, I’m currently studying for the CompTIA Security+ certification. This certification will be a significant milestone for me, marking my first official step into the world of cybersecurity. After Security+, I plan to pursue the Linux+ certification to further solidify my expertise in Linux administration, ensuring that I have a strong foundation as I continue to explore cybersecurity.

My Home Lab: Learning by Doing

One of the best ways to learn about technology is by getting your hands dirty, and that’s exactly what I’ve done with my home lab. Currently, I’m running a Jellyfin server on Ubuntu 24.04, which has been an incredibly rewarding project. Setting up and managing my own media server has given me valuable hands-on experience with Linux, from installation and configuration to network management and troubleshooting.

This home lab setup isn’t just a technical exercise; it’s a practical way to apply what I’ve learned and see the results in real-time. It’s also a fun way to explore the capabilities of Linux and experiment with new software and configurations. Whether it’s streaming media, setting up virtual machines, or experimenting with network security, my home lab is a crucial part of my learning process.
